Health Sector Updates: 22 Million Enrolled in Insurance and PHCs Upgraded

Nigeria’s health sector has recorded several reported gains alongside the wider focus on fuel prices and the naira. More than 22 million Nigerians are said to have enrolled in health insurance since the implementation of the new NHIA law. The update also says over 3,000 primary health centres have been upgraded to provide deliveries, laboratory services, stocked pharmacies and 24-hour care. In Kebbi, Bayelsa, Bauchi and Ondo, about 1.2 million children were reportedly vaccinated against malaria. Kebbi hospital records are said to show a 50% drop in malaria cases over 10 months. The figures highlight progress in access to local healthcare, although the claims should be independently verified against official health-sector data.
