Nigeria to Release New Nautical Charts for Calabar Maritime Corridor

The National Hydrographic Agency will release three new nautical navigation charts on October 1 for the approaches to Calabar, Jamestown and the Port of Calabar. The charts, NG5514, NG5515 and NG4255, will provide updated hydrographic information for vessels operating along the Calabar maritime corridor. They are expected to support safer navigation and more efficient shipping activities in Nigeria’s eastern waters. The paper charts were assessed by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, while the electronic versions were independently validated by the International Centre for Electronic Navigational Charts. Their release will coincide with the withdrawal of two existing UK Admiralty charts covering the Calabar area, with both agencies coordinating the transition to avoid gaps in navigational coverage. The agency said the project reflects Nigeria’s effort to expand its locally produced nautical chart portfolio and maintain waterways to internationally recognised standards.
