King Charles’ “Naija No Dey Carry Last” Toast Highlights Nigeria’s Global Cultural Reach
King Charles III’s remarks at a state banquet for President Bola Tinubu drew attention to Nigeria’s growing cultural influence in Britain and beyond. He referenced Afrobeats filling concert halls, Nollywood reaching new audiences, and Nigerians making notable contributions in football, medicine, law, business, technology and the arts. He described Nigerian culture as a force that has deeply enriched Britain. I find the pride in those remarks important, but they also raise a bigger question. Are we fully recognising the global power of Nigerian food, fashion, film, music, language and creativity? For me, Nigeria is exporting more than entertainment. We are exporting a spirit of resilience, confidence and culture. Which Nigerian cultural export has made the biggest global impact?
