DSS Closes Wiretapping Case Against El-Rufai as Defence Files No-Case Submission

The Department of State Services has formally closed its wiretapping case against former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai at the Federal High Court in Abuja. With the prosecution calling no further witnesses, El-Rufai’s lawyer announced plans to file a no-case submission. The defence asked for two weeks to lodge the application, while the DSS sought the same time to respond and to vary stringent bail conditions. Defence counsel argued that current bail terms—like verification letters and property requirements for level 17 civil servants in Maitama or Asokoro—are unworkable. The prosecution countered that qualified officers exist and urged the court to maintain the terms. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik refused to alter the bail conditions and adjourned proceedings to September 22 for the no-case submission and continuation of the trial.

How do you think this sudden closure of El‐Rufai's wiretapping case will affect public trust in the DSS and judicial process?

What justification did the DSS provide for shutting down this wiretapping investigation so abruptly?

It's odd the DSS called no further witnesses yet court accepted their closure so swiftly without more details.

Maybe the court believed the existing evidence sufficient, so they didn't require more witnesses.

I no dey see why we dey celebrate closure when serious allegations could just dey swept under carpet.

Perhaps the court and DSS should publish more details on evidence handling to reassure citizens about transparency in such high‐profile cases.
