Guest lists can grow from a few hundred people to far more as relatives, friends, colleagues and community members are added. Traditional rites, registry ceremonies and white weddings may also mean several events and several bills. Aso-ebi, multiple outfits and family expectations can add further pressure. Social media has made extravagant weddings look normal, but couples may borrow or empty their savings to meet expectations. Once the celebration ends, loan repayments, rent, household needs and future plans remain. A modest wedding does not reduce the value of a marriage; starting without avoidable debt can give a new home more financial breathing room.
