CAF Unanimously Backs Infantino Again Despite FIFA Governance Row
The Confederation of African Football has unanimously renewed its backing for FIFA president Gianni Infantino as he prepares to seek re-election next March. CAF’s 54 member associations form a major voting bloc within FIFA’s 211-member congress. The endorsement follows criticism of Infantino over a now-abandoned proposal to sell a stake in future World Cup commercial revenues through the FIFA Forward Enterprise. Several national football bodies said they were excluded from discussions on the plan. CAF president Patrice Motsepe welcomed FIFA’s review of the process and said the confederation remains committed to transparency, due process and good governance. CAF’s position differs sharply from UEFA, which has suggested it could consider boycotting future World Cups while Infantino remains in office.
