Anambra CP Urges Stronger Youth Support After Student’s Tragic Suicide

Anambra CP Urges Stronger Youth Support After Student’s Tragic Suicide

The Anambra State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation after the body of a 25-year-old female student was found in Onitsha on June 18 in what officers suspect was suicide. Investigators say they recovered a note in which the woman described her emotional pain after a relationship collapse. She claimed she had ended three pregnancies for the man she named in the note. Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu directed the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for discreet and comprehensive follow-up. He warned that the incident highlights a growing moral decline and social challenges among young people. The CP called on parents, schools, religious bodies and community leaders to intensify mentorship, open communication and value-based programmes to safeguard the emotional well-being of youths.
