On Wednesday 11 March 2026, Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team and seven-time AfroBasket champions D’Tigress thumped Colombia 70–37 in their opening match at the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament in Lyon, France. They set the tone early, leading 18–12 after the first quarter. Colombia edged the second quarter 26–17, but Nigeria answered back with a commanding 19–5 third quarter and a 17–3 finish in the fourth. Ranked eighth in the world, the D’Tigress have already booked their ticket to the World Cup by winning the 2025 AfroBasket title.
