Police Locate Camp Holding 20 Abducted Corps Members, Say Area Is Mined
Police in Imo State say they have located the camp where 20 prospective NYSC members abducted by gunmen are being held. However, officers say they cannot yet enter the area because it is believed to be rigged with explosives. The corps members were travelling from Ibadan to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom when gunmen attacked two buses at Umunoha on Thursday. Families say the kidnappers are demanding ₦50 million for each victim and have contacted them using the victims’ phones. The Imo police commissioner said drone surveillance helped locate the camp. Police teams, supported by armoured vehicles and bulldozers, are advancing as a senior officer coordinates the rescue operation.
