Ogun Relocates School Over Methane Gas Leak, Abiodun Vows Student Safety

Ogun Relocates School Over Methane Gas Leak, Abiodun Vows Student Safety

The Ogun State Government has moved students from Our Lady of Apostles Girls Grammar School in Ijebu-Ode after methane gas was detected on campus. Governor Dapo Abiodun made the decision during an inspection as experts investigate what sparked the contamination. The Ministries of Environment and Health are collaborating with the Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and Olabisi Onabanjo University’s geology department. Initial readings from installed gas analysers confirmed methane emissions, possibly linked to local fault lines. Abiodun assured residents there’s no evidence the incidents were deliberate. He said students will remain at a safe location until authorities are fully satisfied that the environment is secure, promising regular updates on the investigation.

Relocating students was a quick fix, but I wonder if ongoing tests can truly guarantee campus safety before they return.

Moving the girls out might help, but isn't it just postponing risk until after the government resolves root cause?

They need proper air quality testing and counselling services for students before dem go back to that campus for school activities.
