New $188m Green Fund to Finance 191MW Solar Capacity Across Nigeria
A new blended finance platform has been launched to mobilise $188 million for 191 megawatts of distributed solar power across Nigerian homes, communities and businesses. The Green Finance Investment Facility brings together the Rural Electrification Agency, a leading Nigerian bank, development partners and private investors. Its aim is to bridge financing gaps and scale up decentralised renewable energy under the national DARES programme. Officials say this pilot step could unlock over $40 billion in private capital and deliver 20 gigawatts of clean energy. The facility combines sovereign support, results-based funding and commercial lending to accelerate energy access and boost economic growth.
