Understanding Zion as the Presence of God

Zion first appeared in Scripture as a geographical stronghold in Jerusalem, known as the City of David. As biblical revelation unfolds, it also becomes a spiritual picture of God’s presence among His people. Psalm 2 presents Zion as God’s holy mountain and the place of His chosen King. For believers in Christ, God’s presence is no longer limited to a physical location. Through the Holy Spirit, God dwells in those who believe in Him. Zion also speaks of praise, restoration and salvation. We are called to live with the consciousness of God’s presence, praise Him continually and receive the salvation made available through Jesus Christ. Those who accept Christ are invited to grow in faith within a Bible-believing church.
