Oyo Police Reject Viral Claims of Lukarawa Terrorists in Ogbomoso Region

Oyo Police Reject Viral Claims of Lukarawa Terrorists in Ogbomoso Region

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed social media reports claiming that suspected Lukarawa terrorists infiltrated forests around Ogbomoso and the Old Oyo National Park. The statement called the rumours false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic. Police investigations found that the viral video and voice note were old recordings recirculated as recent. The command affirmed there is no credible intelligence to support any terrorist presence in the affected areas. Officers have stepped up visibility patrols and deployed covert operatives to border communities and vulnerable locations. They are working with local vigilante groups, hunters and community networks to improve early warnings and deter criminal activity. Residents were urged to verify security alerts with official sources before sharing them. The police warned that spreading false information is a criminal offence and pledged to investigate and prosecute anyone found culpable.

Have any local witnesses or community leaders outlined how those Lukarawa claims first emerged?

It's odd how fast people dey spread unverified rumours about terrorists in Ogbomoso forests, even after the police cleared the air.

Maybe this panic shows more about our own readiness to believe scary headlines than any real threat in the Old Oyo parks.

Next time false alarms start online, we should check official police statements first before sharing or panicking.
