Nigeria at a Crossroads: A Call to Defend Democracy and Security

We are a group of concerned Nigerians alarmed by mounting threats to our nation. Rising insecurity, electoral manipulation, and weakened institutions now endanger Nigeria’s survival. Our separation of powers is under siege. Executive overreach has stifled the legislature and undermined judicial independence. Public distrust is at its highest, fueling extremism, organized crime, and communal conflict. We urge urgent reforms. We need transparent elections, a strong rule of law, and renewed regional cooperation across the Sahel. Civil society, the private sector, traditional leaders, and professional bodies must demand accountability and protect civic space. The judiciary and electoral body must be held to higher standards to ensure fair and credible elections. Investing in youth, education, and community-based peacebuilding is vital to address the root causes of radicalization and instability.
