WHO Driver Killed by Israeli Gunfire in Gaza
On April 6, WHO driver Majdi Aslan, 54, was killed by Israeli gunfire along Salah al-Din Road in Gaza. According to Dr. Fathi Al-Loulou and colleague Raed Aslan, the clearly marked WHO vehicle was evacuating patients when it came under fire. The IDF says troops fired warning shots at what they describe as an unmarked vehicle approaching near the Yellow Line. They report two local WHO staff were injured. WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus called the killing devastating and said an investigation is under way. The WHO also warns that over 18,500 critical patients, including 4,000 children, still need evacuation from Gaza.
