Cape Verde’s Sidny Cabral Wins World Cup 2026 Round of 32 Best Goal Award
Cape Verde defender Sidny Lopes Cabral has been voted winner of the Round of 32 Goal award at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026, according to reports. The 23-year-old full-back earned the honour for his spectacular strike in Cape Verde’s 3-2 extra-time loss to defending champions Argentina. He cut in from the left flank early in the second half and curled an unstoppable effort past Emiliano Martínez. Cabral dominated the fan vote with 88.7% of the total. Argentina captain Lionel Messi finished second with 4.1%, while Japan’s Kaishu Sano (1.9%), France’s Kylian Mbappé (1.6%) and Mexico’s Julian Quiñones (1.1%) completed the top five. Three more votes will follow after the Round of 16, the combined quarter-final and semi-final stage, and a final vote at the end of the tournament.
