Patrick Vieira Emerges as Front-Runner for Senegal Head Coach Role
Patrick Vieira has emerged as the leading candidate to become Senegal’s next head coach following the team’s exit from the 2026 World Cup. A French report says the Senegalese Football Federation is planning for the future and wants an experienced coach to guide the team into the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and 2030 World Cup qualifiers. Vieira is among the names under serious consideration to replace Pape Thiaw. The former France international won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. He starred for Arsenal—winning three Premier League titles and four FA Cups as captain—and also played for AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City. Vieira moved into coaching with Manchester City’s youth setup before managing New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace and Strasbourg. If appointed, he would be the first French coach of Senegal since Alain Giresse.
