COAS Shaibu Urges Integrity and Discipline at Jos Easter Feast

COAS Shaibu Urges Integrity and Discipline at Jos Easter Feast

By Kingsley Chukwuka At a special Easter luncheon in Jos, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu challenged troops to anchor their operations in honor, responsibility and respect for the rule of law. Represented by Maj Gen Godwin Mutkut, he used the gathering to reinforce discipline and resilience across active theatres. Noting the rare overlap of Easter with Ramadan, the Army Chief described the convergence as a powerful symbol of cohesion within Nigeria’s diverse force. He paid tribute to front-line soldiers and fallen heroes, pledging continued welfare support under President Tinubu’s strategic initiatives. Maj Gen Folunsho Oyinlola praised the troops’ measured response during recent tensions in Jos and called for stronger intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration. He stressed that while the season is one of spiritual renewal, vigilance remains essential to protect innocent lives and uphold national sovereignty.

I agree that emphasizing integrity and discipline is vital, though actually maintaining them on the ground looks tough.

Emphasizing discipline at an Easter luncheon sounds symbolic, but ceremony alone won't change behaviour in the field.

I appreciate his call for responsibility, but luncheon speeches alone seem too broad to tackle real security challenges.

A shared code of conduct workshop following the luncheon could help soldiers translate Shaibu's principles into daily routines.
