LASHMA-AID Saves 110 Lives in First Six Months of Lagos Emergency Care Programme
Lagos State’s LASHMA-AID emergency healthcare programme says it attended to 132 life-threatening cases between March and September 2026, with 110 patients surviving. The agency recorded 22 deaths, which it linked to the severity of injuries sustained before treatment. The programme supported 106 vulnerable residents, alongside 23 ILERA EKO enrollees and three Eko Social Health Alliance enrollees. It also paid health insurance premiums for vulnerable beneficiaries and their immediate family members. LASHMA said Ikeja, Badagry, Ogba and Lagos Island recorded the highest number of emergency pickups. Ambulance teams carried out 76 emergency transports, while hospitals, social welfare officers and Good Samaritans also assisted patients. Under the scheme, health facilities are expected to stabilise people facing life-threatening emergencies without first demanding proof of health insurance enrolment. The agency says it is working with stakeholders to address operational gaps as demand for emergency care grows.
