Should Schools Publish the Names of Expelled Students?
Some former students remain around campuses after expulsion, withdrawal or rustication, while still presenting themselves to parents and friends as active students. This can enable prolonged financial deception and make it harder for schools to manage campus access and security. The writer argues that institutions should consider publishing confirmed disciplinary decisions after due process, particularly where serious misconduct is involved. Such disclosure, they say, could help parents discover the truth, prevent further misuse of family resources and clarify who is no longer affiliated with a school. However, any disclosure should be factual, proportionate and made only after all internal reviews or appeals have been concluded. Schools, parents, landlords and campus security should also work together to prevent former students from unlawfully using student privileges.
