England Plans £925 Annual Levy on Universities for Each International Student Above 220 From 2028
Universities in England may be required to pay an annual levy of £925 for every international student enrolled above an exemption threshold of 220 from August 2028. The proposed charge would affect students from Nigeria and other major source countries, including India, China, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is expected to cover both new and existing international students. Although universities, not students, would pay the levy directly, prospective students and families fear institutions could raise international tuition fees to recover the added cost. This could further increase the overall cost of studying in England, alongside visa, travel, accommodation and living expenses.
