Bright Osayi-Samuel Withdraws From Super Eagles Squad for Russia Friendly
Bright Osayi-Samuel has withdrawn from Nigeria’s international friendly against Russia, adding to Éric Chelle’s defensive concerns ahead of Tuesday’s match in Nizhny Novgorod. The full-back joins captain Wilfred Ndidi and centre-back Victory Akpe among the players unavailable for the trip. Ndidi is reported to have picked up a knock during the recent qualifiers, while Akpe suffered an injury in training. Chelle has already called up John Otomewo and Vince Osuji as replacements. Senior players including Stanley Nwabali, Kelechi Iheanacho, Jerome Akor and stand-in captain Moses Simon are already in Russia preparing for the match. Nigeria and Russia drew 1-1 in their previous senior meeting in Moscow in June 2025.
