Google’s AI Investments Fuel Net Profit Surge to $112 Billion

Google’s net profit jumped fourfold to $112 billion in the latest quarter, driven by its AI model Gemini and AI-powered search queries. CEO Sundar Pichai credited strong YouTube engagement around 2026 FIFA World Cup content for lifting viewer numbers to 1.7 billion unique viewers. Gains from AI stakes in SpaceX and Anthropic added about $99 billion to earnings, while total revenue rose 24% year-on-year to over $119 billion. Alphabet’s cloud division contributed $24 billion in revenue for the quarter. Alphabet also raised its full-year capital expenditure forecast to $205 billion, up from $190 billion, to meet surging demand for AI infrastructure. CFO Anat Ashkenazi said most of the $45 billion spent this quarter went into AI initiatives, with capex set to climb further in 2027.

Gemini may be strong, but AI won't solve every search issue. Users still complain about irrelevant results on non-World Cup queries.
