He Avoided a $75,000 Investment Scam After Trusting His Unease

I met a man on a flight from Lagos to London who was considering a $75,000 investment in a supposedly guaranteed real-estate fund. The returns sounded exceptional, his friends had joined, and he felt pressured to act quickly. When he asked for advice, I asked what he truly felt about the deal, whether he had prayed about it, and what question he was avoiding. He admitted that something about the investment made him uneasy. I told him not to ignore that feeling. He decided against investing. Two days later, reports revealed that the fund was fraudulent and several investors lost their money. The lesson is simple: attractive returns and familiar faces are not enough. Do proper checks, ask difficult questions, and do not rush into an investment you do not fully understand.

Guaranteed returns, social proof from friends, and urgency are a worrying combination in any investment conversation.

Unease is worth listening to, but it should lead to verification rather than become the only basis for rejecting an opportunity.

Before committing that amount, pause, review the fund documents, and seek independent checks instead of relying on pressure or promises.
