Military Launches Fertilizer Drive to Heal Jos Communities After Agwan Rukuba Attack

Military Launches Fertilizer Drive to Heal Jos Communities After Agwan Rukuba Attack — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, has begun distributing fertilizer across Jos North, Jos East and Bassa LGAs. Major General Folusho Oyinlola says this non-kinetic support will help bridge ethnic and religious divides ahead of the new farming season. Brigadier General Mohammed Sule added that the Chief of Defence Staff approved the programme to boost productivity and foster communal cooperation. The Chairman of Jos North, Barr John Christopher, praised the initiative and vowed to work with the military to consolidate the hard-won peace. The military also confirmed the arrest of several suspects linked to the Agwan Rukuba killings. Those in custody now face trial, offering the community a sense of accountability and closure. To protect planting activities, an elite Special Forces unit was deployed to Plateau State weeks earlier to prevent farm destruction and cattle rustling. Community leaders from both faiths have welcomed the aid and committed to a joint code of conduct to guard against provocation.

I guess distributing fertilizer gives farmers a chance to interact under common goals, which can slowly build trust.

I wonder if this military-led fertilizer drive can truly bridge long-standing ethnic tensions or if it's more symbolic than substantial.

Sending fertilizer sounds helpful, but I'm not convinced fair distribution will genuinely reach those in remote villages without proper oversight.

Local cooperatives could track and share fertilizer allocations to ensure transparency and support farmers across Jos North, East, and Bassa LGAs.
