Federal High Court Dismisses EEDC’s ₦100m Suit Against Activist Osita Obi

The Federal High Court in Awka has struck out the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company’s claim for ₦100 million against rights activist Comrade Osita Obi. EEDC filed the suit over Obi’s alleged role in 2019 protests against power outages. When the case resumed, neither EEDC nor its lawyer appeared, prompting the court to cite lack of diligent prosecution. Obi’s counsel argued that the suit had dragged on since 2019 across multiple jurisdictions. The judge agreed the applicant showed no interest in pursuing the matter and dismissed the case, though he declined to award costs. The ruling brings an end to EEDC’s long-running attempt to seek damages for protests over electricity failures.
