John the Baptist’s Powerful Witness: Behold the Lamb of God

In John 1:29–34, John the Baptist sees Jesus approaching and declares, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” He explains that although Jesus came after him, he existed before all and surpasses his ministry. John was baptizing with water so that Jesus could be revealed to Israel. John testifies that he saw the Holy Spirit descend on Jesus like a dove. The one marked by this sign is God’s Chosen One, who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.
