Seven Injured as Two-Storey Building Under Construction Collapses in Jikwoyi, Abuja

At about 11:00am on Friday, April 3, a two-storey building under construction in Jikwoyi, Abuja, gave way, injuring seven people. Construction workers on the upper floor were caught in the collapse. According to the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), 17 workers were on the upper level when the structure failed. Five sustained injuries and one worker trapped at ground level was later rescued by FEMD’s Search and Rescue Team. All the injured have been taken to Sisters of Nativity Hospital in Jikwoyi and are responding to treatment. Emergency agencies on site include FEMD, NEMA, FCDA’s Engineering Department, the NSCDC, the Federal Fire Service, and the FCT Police Command. Excavation continues to ensure no one remains trapped.
