Ebube Anaedo Renounces Catholicism to Become Senior Bishop in Omenala Movement
Sir James Louis, known as Ebube Anaedo or “Akacham,” left the Catholic Church in January 2026 during the dedication of the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral in Nnewi. He felt offended that the late businessman and senator Ifeanyi Ubah was not honoured for funding the project. A viral video showed him removing his knight’s hat and shouting “Akacham,” declaring he was done with Christianity. Since then, he embraced Igbo traditional worship. In a recent ceremony organised by the Omenala Bu Eziokwi Na Ndu movement, Ebube Anaedo was ordained as a Senior Bishop. He spoke about his former roles in the Catholic Church—rosary block leader, choir member and knight—before embracing traditional beliefs. The ceremony was captured in video footage shared by a vocal Igbo traditionalist and featured prayers and rites celebrating his new office.
