A 25-year-old woman from Barcelona, left paralyzed after a suicide attempt triggered by a gang rape in 2022, is scheduled for euthanasia today. Noelia Castillo has lived in a wheelchair since her failed jump from a fifth-floor building. She endures constant pain and limited mobility from the waist down. The Catalan government approved her request last July, but her father’s legal appeals and a last-minute bid to the European Court of Human Rights were unsuccessful. In a recent interview, Noelia said, “I want to go now and stop suffering, period.” She plans to wear her prettiest dress and makeup. She invited her family to say goodbye but will be alone when the procedure takes place.
