IGP Disu Debunks Rumour of Nationwide Disbandment of Police Squads
Several online outlets wrongly reported that IGP Olatunji Disu ordered the disbandment of all police tactical units. The Force clarifies this misrepresentation of his directives. The IGP values the role of tactical teams in fighting crime but is concerned about their unchecked proliferation. He has therefore capped the number of units at zonal and state levels to five, and at area and divisional levels to three. State-created outfits such as the Lagos Rapid Response Squad and similar formations remain unaffected. This restructuring will redeploy personnel back to police stations, enhance supervision, and rebuild public confidence through greater accountability.
