Nigerian Army Denies Soldiers Buy Uniforms, Affirms Full Equipment Supply
In response to a viral interview by former soldier Rotimi Olamilekan, the Nigerian Army has dismissed claims that troops purchase their own uniforms and protective gear. Acting Director of Army Public Relations Appolonia Anele described the allegations as false and misleading. She emphasised that all personnel receive consolidated monthly pay, uniform allowances and additional benefits for operational deployments. The Army explained that uniforms, protective equipment, arms and ammunition are provided through established logistics channels. Any personal upgrades by soldiers are voluntary and not due to systemic failures. It added that Olamilekan was dismissed for disciplinary breaches and not for raising concerns. The force urged the public to disregard the baseless claims that could undermine morale and national security.
