Six Nigerian Women Share Why They Accepted Money From Men They Did Not Like
Six Nigerian women shared stories of accepting money, gifts or free meals from men they did not genuinely want to date. Some said financial pressure, boredom or convenience kept them in uncomfortable situations longer than they intended. One woman said an older family acquaintance gave her cash despite her lack of interest. Another accepted expensive gifts from a man she felt embarrassed to be seen with. Others described free food, financial support and gifts that later came with controlling behaviour or harassment. The stories also raise questions about consent, expectations around gifts in relationships, and what happens when one person believes money should guarantee affection or intimacy. In several cases, the women eventually ended contact when the situations became unsafe, controlling or emotionally draining.
