The Sokoto State Police Command says it has arrested about 20 people after a protest calling for the release of detained Islamic cleric Dahiru Barewa, also known as Mai Barewa. Police said some protesters blocked roads, demonstrated in parts of Sokoto metropolis and allegedly attacked security personnel. The command added that the suspects have been charged to court. Barewa was remanded following allegations that he made threats against Islamic scholars Sheikh Musa Ayyuba Lukuwa and Malam Murtala Bello Assada in videos circulated online.
