Referee Attacked After Controversial Penalty Ends Kenyan Play-Off

A Kenyan Premier League promotion/relegation play-off between Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United was abandoned in the 66th minute after a disputed penalty decision. Referee John Sulwe awarded Mombasa United a penalty after a player went down in the box. Kariobangi Sharks players protested the call before home supporters entered the pitch and chased the referee. Sulwe was reportedly assaulted before security officials escorted him to safety. Sharks were leading 2-1 when the match was called off, while Mombasa United had won the first leg 2-1.
