Rooney Blasts 2026 World Cup Final Halftime Show as “Crap”
Wayne Rooney did not hold back in his live BBC Sport commentary on the inaugural Super Bowl–style halftime performance at the 2026 World Cup final. The former England captain said he enjoys many of the featured stars, but felt the overall show fell flat. “I like a lot of the artists, but I thought it was crap,” Rooney said as the match remained goalless between Argentina and Spain. FIFA’s new halftime format showcased Madonna, Shakira, Burna Boy and a production led by Coldplay’s Chris Martin. It was designed to merge top musical acts with football’s biggest stage, but earned a lukewarm verdict from one of the game’s greats.
