World Teachers’ Day: Shona-Aluko Urges Educators to Keep Shaping Children’s Lives
Dr. Folashade Shona-Aluko has urged teachers to remain committed to their work, even when their efforts are not immediately recognised. She said the impact teachers have on children may become clear years later. Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Teachers’ 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Ikeja, Lagos, she described teachers as second parents who help shape children’s character, discipline and values. She also called on teachers to promote respect and indigenous cultural values among pupils. According to her, parents and teachers must work together to guide children into becoming responsible members of society. During the event, bags of rice were distributed to teachers and selected educators received awards for their service.
