Ondo State Orders Owners to Redevelop Abandoned Properties or Risk Repossession

Ondo State Orders Owners to Redevelop Abandoned Properties or Risk Repossession

The Ondo State Government has ordered owners of abandoned buildings to develop them or face government repossession. Attorney-General Dr Olukayode Ajulo said the directive is part of a major urban renewal drive. Owners can develop on their own or surrender sites to investors. Abandoned structures in Akure and other cities have stood idle for decades. The reforms include full digitisation of land administration and strict enforcement of the Executive Order on planning compliance signed by the governor in 2025. This will ensure proper monitoring, documentation and sustainable city growth. The government also warned against indiscriminate dumping of waste and defacement of infrastructure. Violations will attract enforcement and sanctions under existing laws.
