ASUU Threatens Strike as FG Fails to Implement 2025 Pact
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) North-West zone has called on the Federal Government to honour its 2025 agreement. At a Sokoto press briefing, the Zonal Coordinator highlighted delays in constituting the Implementation Monitoring Committee and non-payment of salary awards, promotion arrears, and withheld funds from the 2022 strike. The union also criticised recent education policy changes, from reversing mother-tongue instruction in early years to plans for a foreign university campus and cutting humanities courses. Warning of possible industrial action if issues remain unresolved, ASUU urged Nigerians, parents, students and civil society to support efforts for well-funded public universities.
