Brazilian Hiker Dies in 100-Foot Fall Days After Bungee Tragedy
Rosemary Suzart Garcia, 59, slipped on a steep trail at Grutas do Spar in Maric on June 14. The seasoned hiker reached to apply insect repellent near an overlook when she lost her balance. A guide lunged for her arm but nearly fell over the edge before grabbing a root. Firefighters later recovered her body. The fatal fall follows another accident just one day earlier. A 21-year-old bungee jumper plunged 130 feet from a bridge in Limeira, Sao Paulo, after staff forgot to attach her cord. Six people have been arrested in connection with that tragedy. Reports say Garcia was wearing gloves, a helmet and other safety gear when she fell. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the accident.
