Countering Anti-Blackness Through Self-Respect and Solidarity
I see anti-Blackness as a destructive force that can appear in racism, humiliation, discrimination and the way Black people are sometimes taught to devalue themselves and one another. It can also show up in everyday cruelty, including the mistreatment of domestic workers and a lack of consideration for vulnerable people. I believe we should counter it with deliberate pro-Black values: dignity, truth, self-respect and compassion. This begins with examining how we speak to, treat and support other Black people, both offline and online. I also encourage sharing positive images, stories and messages that affirm Black identity and worth. For me, these daily choices are a spiritual and practical way to resist hatred and build stronger communities.
