IGP Disu Deploys DIGs to All Geopolitical Zones, Launches Inter-State “Handshake Patrols”

IGP Disu Deploys DIGs to All Geopolitical Zones, Launches Inter-State “Handshake Patrols”

The Inspector-General of Police, Rilwan Disu, has ordered Deputy Inspectors-General to assume duties in their respective geopolitical zones. Commissioners of Police have also been directed to begin coordinated patrols across state borders. This deployment takes effect from Monday, June 15, 2026, and was announced by the Nigeria Police Force spokesperson at Force Headquarters in Abuja. It aims to bring senior leadership closer to the field and improve oversight of regional commands. Under the new “Handshake Patrols” initiative, neighbouring commands will share intelligence and conduct joined operations along major entry and exit routes. The move seeks to close jurisdictional gaps criminals may exploit and strengthen national security coordination.
