From Judgment to Redemption: God’s Sovereign Use of Spirits

In Judges 9:23 we read that God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the leaders of Shechem. This event shows His sovereign use of unseen forces to bring judgment and conflict. In the New Testament, Jesus confronts and casts out evil spirits (Mark 1:34; Luke 11:14–20). These accounts reveal God’s kingdom breaking into the world to restore peace and defeat evil. We see a shift from spirits used for divine judgment to the definitive work of Christ in overcoming every form of darkness. But what happens to these spirits once God’s purposes are complete? Are they not also His messengers?
