Orhionmwon Youths Hailwind as Edo Deputy Speaker’s Rally Is Disrupted

Orhionmwon Youths Hailwind as Edo Deputy Speaker’s Rally Is Disrupted

Hundreds of youths in Orhionmwon East took to the streets in Abudu to protest the re-election campaign of Deputy Speaker Osamwonyi Atu. They accused him of failing to keep key promises, including restoring power after a 15-year outage and completing a local school project. The protesters, under the Concerned Orhionmwon East Youths banner, held placards demanding that the lawmaker fulfill outstanding commitments before seeking another term. Atu dismissed the demonstration as retaliation from those targeted by the state’s newly passed anti-cultism law. His campaign coordinator countered the critics, alleging rival sponsorship and insisting the deputy speaker had delivered projects such as a comprehensive school. He also noted that elders in Abudu later welcomed Atu and prayed for his re-election success.

Do you think these protests will push the deputy speaker to finally restore power and finish the school project?

Are there signs the deputy speaker is paying attention to public pressure, or is this just another political stunt?

I'm not convinced demonstrations alone will force action; he probably needs more concrete accountability measures.

It's telling that after fifteen years without electricity, local frustration is boiling over rather than productive dialogue.

An organized petition or town hall meeting might create clearer pressure on Atu to address power and school delays.
