Fedpoly Offa Management Receives Presidential Visitation Panel, Commends FG Management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State has received 2021 Presidential Visitation Panel set up by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Education to assess the Polytechnics in Nigeria and make recommendation for improvement. The Federal Polytechnic Offa Panel headed by Professor Duro Oni from University of Lagos also had 5 other members and a secretary. The Rector, Dr. Lateef Olatunji in his opening address welcomed the visitation panel to the Polytechnic and assured the panel members of maximum support and cooperation from the Management, staff and students. According to him": It gives me great pleasure to welcome the Federal Government's constituted visitation team to this great citadel of learning. We give glory to God for your safety from various destination. It is essential to thank Mr. President Government through the Ministry of Education for gathering these crop of seasoned administrators who are versatile and adept educationists as members of the visitation panel to our great institution. With the combination of this great minds, I'm confident that your findings, observations and recommendations will eradicate the challenges facing Polytechnic education, rejig and improve the Polytechnic sector in general." While addressing the Management and the staff of the Polytechnic, Chairman of the panel, Prof. Duro Oni itemised the terms of references to the polytechnic community and assured the entire staff of the Polytechnic equal treatment, and representation. Prof. Oni further emphasized on the core mandate of the panel as one that is devoid of witch hunting and not an avenue to settle old grudges within the system. He stressed further that the purpose of setting up the panel is to look into the areas facing set back in the Polytechnic system and make recommendation for the betterment of all the Polytechnics in Nigeria. The emeritus Professor however charged the polytechnic community to present a memoranda to the panel regarding any complaint and assured that all sides would be treated with utmost confidentiality. He said: "Giving us this mandate, the Honorable Minister clearly stated that the exercise is not to witch hunt nor jamboree of unnecessary and wasteful spending. Our job is to listen to everyone, we are not a court of law and we are not going to pass judgment on anyone. All we are expected to do is to study the situation of the Polytechnic and make recommendation; where there is need for clarity, it would be sorted out. The memoranda should be submitted as we are on ground to address all issues. Speaking further, he said it is not the time for the Polytechnic staff to revisit old wounds. He added that if there are grievances, the panel will listen to all sides equally as nobody will be silenced or marginalized. He stressed further that the members of visitation panel are happy because the Rector has assured them of maximum cooperation from the Polytechnic as the goal is to make recommendation for the betterment of The Federal Polytechnic Offa and other Polytechnics in Nigeria. Speaking on the terms of references, the Chairman said each panel is expected to review the performance of the institution, assign the areas of governance, academic standards, quality assurance, management of finances and relationship between the Management, staff and students. He added that the panel is charged with the onus of reassessment of the institution on physical infrastructure as well as structural facilities and advise the government properly on it and other pertinent issues. Terms of references also involve looking into the leadership quality of the institution, the head of the institution and other principal officers and also look into the financial management of the institution over the recommended periods among others. The Secretary to the panel, Mr. Adesoji Ogunkunle notifies the Polytechnic staff and community on the submission of memoranda. He noted that the submission will be closed on Tuesday 4th of May, 2021 as announced in the media. Other members of the panel are: Prof. Rotgak Illiya Gofwen, Mrs Hadiza Tukur, Mr. Sekonde Davies, Arc. Sani I. Savliwa, Hon. Ethelbert A.T. Onuha.
