Bandit Attack in Kogi Sparks School Closures Across States

Bandit Attack in Kogi Sparks School Closures Across States

Schools in Kogi, Edo and Niger states closed early after fresh bandit attacks and threats. Authorities acted on intelligence and reports of planned mass abductions to protect pupils. In Kogi, gunmen on motorcycles attacked UBE Secondary/Primary School in Iluke, killing three people, including the vice principal. Security forces responded and neutralised one attacker while investigations continue. A security report of imminent kidnappings in Edo North led to temporary shutdowns of three schools under strict protection for exam candidates. In Niger State, rumours of an invasion caused panic, but police later dismissed the claims as false and warned against misinformation. Civil society groups and international organisations have condemned the violence and urged government and community leaders to strengthen school security and bring perpetrators to justice.
