Why Nigerian Men Seem to Bow Down to White Visitors
I recently crossed the Nigerian border and noticed something striking. From customs to immigration to the police, Nigerian men were incredibly friendly to white travelers. They waved, smiled, and seemed to offer special treatment. In one case, an officer even told a white couple from England that Queen Elizabeth was like his mother and they were his masters. This kind of behavior is common across the country. Many Nigerian men seem almost babyish in their subservience. It feels like a display of “white privilege” in Nigeria. It makes me reflect on our history. With slavery and colonialism, perhaps this mindset was ingrained long ago. I wonder how we can address this lack of self-confidence and reclaim our dignity.
