TCN Boss Pledges Stable Power as National Grid Capacity Climbs to 8,700 MW
During a town-hall in Abuja, the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria began his second term by promising a more efficient and reliable national transmission network. He described his reappointment as a fresh mandate under the federal government’s broader power sector reform agenda. He highlighted that grid wheeling capacity has risen from about 5,000 MW in 2015 to over 8,700 MW today. This growth stems from sustained investments in transmission infrastructure, including the installation of more than 82 transformers in 23 months and 15 high-capacity 300 MVA units. Major hubs such as Lekki, Ikeja West, Kano and Enugu have seen key upgrades that have reduced system disturbances. He also noted collaborations with the World Bank, African Development Bank and JICA in financing these projects. For his second term, his priority is translating these infrastructure gains into stable bulk power delivery for distribution companies and end users.
