Retired Generals Urge Unity, Warn Against Ethnicizing Nigeria’s Insecurity
At a Kaduna press briefing held in honor of the late Maj Gen Rabe Abubakar, a group of retired military officers warned Nigerians against blaming the North for the country’s growing security challenges. Brig-Gen Ismaila Abdullahi (rtd) stressed that terrorism, banditry and kidnapping now affect every region. He warned that framing these threats in ethnic or regional terms only deepens divisions and undermines collective efforts. The officers called on the 19 Northern governors to develop a regional security framework and urged all levels of government to provide support for families of serving and retired personnel. They emphasized the need for stronger political will and a more proactive national response to protect every Nigerian.
