Lionel Messi Avoids MLS Suspension Through Yellow-Card Good-Behaviour Rule

Lionel Messi appeared set to miss Inter Miami’s next match after receiving his fifth yellow card of the MLS season against FC Cincinnati. The booking came in the 42nd minute after Messi challenged Cincinnati defender Samuel Gidi while trying to regain the ball near goal. Under an MLS good-behaviour rule on yellow-card accumulation, however, the expected one-match suspension will not apply. Messi is therefore available for Inter Miami’s upcoming game against the New England Revolution.
